PET TRAVEL 

TRAVELLING WITH A PET?

The information below is a guideline - it has been provided to us by expats who have traveled with pets but please make sure that you check with a vet before travelling so that you ensure that the information is correct and up to date. Also if there is anything you find out and would like to add / amend please let us know.  


To enter Kazakhstan your pet must have:

1. International pet passport with all vaccinations stamped in it and signed by a vet.
2. Microchip 
3. Rabies vaccination. 
4. Other vaccinations required are Leptospirosis for dogs and Panleukopenia for cats.
5. Have written in your Pet Passport that your pet is dewormed and free of fleas and ticks.

Pets should pass custom clearance when they come into Kazakhstan but usually no-one checks documentations and/or pet.

Exporting a pet from Kazakhstan:

To leave Kazakhstan your pet must have: 

1. International pet passport.
2. Microchip.
3. Rabies vaccination.
4. Rabies antibody test (not needed for US).
5. Deworming/ de-fleaing.

Transporting a pet within Kazakhstan:

1. Pet passport 
2. Rabies vaccination 
3. Deworming/ de-fleaing.

There are number of documents and permits required for travel that are rather difficult to obtain on your own. Some clinics can collect all the necessary documents on your behalf for a fee. For example, the Doctor Panda Vet Clinic, located in #2a Avant-garde Micro-region #4, phone number +7(701)394-1033 open Tuesday through Sunday, 9am to 7pm with lunch break from 1pm to 2pm.  The vet provided more details in addition to what is written above.

Exporting a pet out of Kazakhstan:

1. Four months before the trip, if you exporting a pet to the country that requires readies antibody blood test or serological test, contact the vet to make sure that all vaccination is up to date.
2. One month before the trip, if blood test is not required, schedule a visit to the vet to make sure that the animal is healthy and all vaccinations are up to date. Bring with you two copies of your passport, your Individual Tax Number (ИНН) and two copies of your pet's passport.
3. Pay KZT 20 000 and leave your cell number, they will call you when all the documents will be ready.
4. Three days before the trip, bring your pet to the vet for deworming and de-fleaing, don't forget to make sure that this is being marked in your pet's passport.

Transporting a pet within Kazakhstan:

1. One month before the trip, bring your pet for a checkup and to make sure that all the vaccinations are up to date.
2.Three days before the trip bring your animal for deworming and de-fleaing.
3. One work day before the trip come to the vet with your passport, your pet passport and KZT 2 000 for the travel permit.

By the way; Doctor Panda has a pet hotel (KZT 1 500+ for cats per day and KZT 2 000+ for dogs per day) as well as grooming services and obedience training courses.
